The Richmond Bush Sprints Inc. Committee is proud to once again host the 2026 Richmond Bush Sprints on Saturday, 19 September 2026, at the Richmond Racecourse.

Renowned as one of North West Queensland's most iconic country race meetings, the Richmond Bush Sprints celebrates the true spirit of outback racing. Unlike traditional race meetings, the Richmond Bush Sprints features no registered racehorses—instead showcasing locally owned and trained bush horses competing in a fun, friendly, and uniquely Australian atmosphere.

More than just a day at the races, the Richmond Bush Sprints is a community celebration that brings together locals and visitors from across the region to enjoy thrilling racing, country hospitality, live entertainment, fashions, great food and refreshments, and a fantastic social atmosphere. Whether you're a seasoned racing enthusiast or experiencing bush racing for the first time, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Sprint 1 – Maiden (320m | A Maiden Horse is defined as a horse that has not won a race)

Sprint 2 –  Off the Track Thoroughbreds (360m | An Open Horse is a horse that has won six or more races.
All Off the Track Thoroughbreds are eligible to compete in this race and will be classified as Open Horses, regardless of the number of races they have won)

Sprint 3 - Progressive Race (360m | A Progressive Horse is defined as a horse that has won no more than three races)

Sprint 4 – Local Station Sprint (200m | Both the horse and the jockey must reside within a 200 km radius of Richmond.  Horses must be genuine station mustering horse.  All riders must compete using a stock saddle.  The race will be conducted as a Flag Start)

Sprint 6 – Merrie Elliott Breeders Cup (360m | Eligibility is restricted to horses and jockeys that meet the following criteria: Horses must be three years of age or older.  Horses must be AQHA, AMQHA, APHA or AAA registered.  A minimum riding weight of 65 kg applies to all horses)
